The winters here in Boston are absolutely brutal. We’ve just had our first big snow storm a few days ago. I can’t believe I actually ventured out during the storm to pick up some wine, haha. What was I thinking!
Anywho, I’m still alive.
I’ve decided that during these bad weather conditions I’ll likely work from home more often. I’m going to want a quiet home office with all the cutesy gadgets and gizmos to make me comfortable and feel at home.
My office is pretty bare at the moment: just a desk, chair, my iMac, and a few spare monitors. So I went out and picked out a few small, decorative essentials to make my home office situation a little better. Here’s a few things I picked that may also be of interest to you:
This is probably one of my favorite purchases I’ve made. I picked up a Google Home as a Christmas plus birthday gift to myself and I don’t regret it one bit. I picked the Google Home versus the Alexa because I have a Google phone and their Google Fi network so it just made sense that I stick to everything Google. Plus, yes, I am a little biased here in that I think the Google Home is a better product.
Google has their search engine linked to their AI product so I’m likely to have better results with it. Another thing I like about the Google Home (and this might also apply to the Amazon Alexa) is that it can pick up my voice even when i don’t talk very loudly. I would be in another room or in the kitchen and I can say “Ok, Google” with a calm voice and recognizes me pretty well. I use it to play music, to check the weather, time, what’s on my agenda, listen to the latest news, set up meetings and/or appointments on my calendar, etc.
I’ts a really good personal assistant without having to dish out money to pay a salary 😛 Now if only it can learn to make calls, play music from my playlist, or turn on and off lights….. As of now, Google Home doesn’t do any of this but I’m sure with future updates this little guy will become quite an essential addition to one’s home office.
This set is so adorable! I bought this set off of a seller on eBay called aldermed and I am so happy with my purchase! In fact, I love this purchase so much, I bought another set immediately after to bring to my office in the City. It’s so comfortable and fun to play with when you’re stressed.
The colors are fun, bright, and very modern looking which is the look I was going for for my home office. Also, very beneficial for your wrists. I have sedentary job where I am on a computer for a good portion of the day so these are super essential for me. I would highly recommend you checking out this store
I love plants: real ones and fake ones (although I prefer fake as I barely have time to take care of myself let alone a plant). But something about having greenery around me that is so refreshing. It puts me in a positive mood.
I have a small bouquet of yellow sunflowers in a white glass vase to compliment my iMac computer. However, I would really love t own a mini portable garden so that i can tend to it when i get bored with work – which is frequently. I found a nice looking one from Sur La Table called the AeroGarden Seed Pod Kit.
They’re on sale at the moment for $180 (originally $230). How nice would it be to work and smell fresh basil and parsley?
A Motivating Sign or Plaque
I have a ton of things I need to get done on a constant basis, and I do the best I can to time-box the tasks that I need to work on and complete. Sometimes it’s nice to have a little motivation staring at you in the face. I recently found a really great wooden letter plaque with the word “#Hustle” (yep, with the hashtag too). I find TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods to be one of the best places to find motivational plaques or pictures as a home office decor. If you live near one of their stores, make a quick stop and check out their selection.
Be sure you don’t forget to get your essentials while decorating your home office. Have other suggestions or want to share whats in your office? Just leave a comment!
